Teaching Philosophy
As a 7th grade science teacher at Crane Middle School, I believe that all students can succeed when given the tools, support, and opportunities to explore their curiosity and inquiries. My teaching philosophy is grounded in creating a student-centered, equal and free environment where learners engage in hands-on, investigative-based science that connects to the real world.
I use the 5E instructional model—engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate—to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in science and English language learning strategies. I also integrate literacy, language support, and technology to meet the diverse needs of students in Yuma, many of whom are English learners or come from varied cultural backgrounds.
I view science education as more than content delivery; it’s a platform to motivate, inspire confidence, and foster a classroom environment where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and grow through challenges. By incorporating social-emotional learning and reflective practices, I help students build resilience and take ownership of their learning, progress, and development.
My number one objective is to have students see themselves as capable scientists and thinkers who can make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world around them.
